Alert, we have over 100 confirmed cases of monkeypox!
Data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that from 2 June to 30 June 2023, 106 new confirmed cases of monkeypox were reported in mainland China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), of which 48 cases were reported in Guangdong Province, 45 cases in Beijing City, 8 cases in Jiangsu Province, 2 cases in Hubei Province, 2 cases in Shandong Province, and 1 case in Zhejiang Province, with no serious illnesses or deaths at present. Although the virus does not cause high mortality in immunocompetent individuals, it can cause serious illness and death if it spreads to immunocompromised individuals, children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with comorbidities such as diabetes.

CCK8 (Cell Counting Kit-8) is a cell proliferation assay kit developed by DOJINDO. Its main active ingredient is tetrazolium salt WST-8, chemically known as 2-(2-methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-5-(2,4-disulfonylphenyl)-2H-tetrazolium monosodium salt, which can be reduced by mitochondrial dehydrogenase to a water-soluble, orange-yellow, dirty dye in living cells, and the number of living cells can be indirectly reflected by using an enzyme marker to measure the absorbance at 450nm.

Aspartame causes cancer? Are sugar substitutes still okay to eat?
Recently, a story about aspartame causing cancer hit the hot seat and caused a lot of buzz. The reason for this buzz is that the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is part of the World Health Organisation (WHO), will likely announce in July that the artificial sweetener aspartame is "probably carcinogenic to humans", according to sources cited by Reuters. According to IARC's classification, aspartame would be classified in group 2b, which means that there is only a small amount of evidence to suggest that they may cause cancer, along with petrol, electromagnetic radiation and other carcinogens.

Threaded bolus method-preparation of MCAO model of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion
Ischaemic stroke/cerebral infarction poses a serious threat to human health and is the third leading cause of death and physical injury nationally and globally. The high morbidity, disability and mortality rates of stroke place a heavy burden on families and society. In order to effectively select drugs for the treatment of ischaemic stroke and to improve the cure and recovery rates, the establishment of a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) reperfusion model close to the human infarction has been a challenge for researchers, and the use of a stable animal model is one of the most important tools for the study of such diseases. This paper describes the whole process of making experimental animal models for studying cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in SD rats from the aspects of selection of experimental animals, selection of wire bolus materials, fabrication and processing of wire boluses, and the influence of the external environment and surgery, so as to provide researchers with a long-term stable model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in SD rats and ultimately to improve the success rate and feasibility of the experimental animal models.
