Bioinformatics is an indispensable tool in the process of modern drug development, which is mainly used for the screening and confirmation of drug targets. Screening and functional study of drug targets is the prerequisite for drug design and development, and currently there are several methods that can be used for drug target screening:

• Genomic Approaches

There are very rich genomics databases that provide a solid data base for drug target discovery. A variety of genomics methods have been used for screening and confirmation of drug targets.

• Gene Chip Methods

Disease-related gene microarray data resources are very rich, so the use of gene microarray data to mine drug targets related to specific diseases has gradually become a very important means.

• Proteomics Methods

Abnormalities in protein expression or regulation are hallmarks of disease development, and these functional proteins that can determine the traits and metabolic characteristics of individual organisms can serve as potential drug targets.

• Metabolomic Approaches

All effects on an organism can be manifested above the level of the metabolome, which can amplify changes in the proteome. Abnormal changes in metabolic pathways may signal abnormalities in life activities, and therefore describing changes in metabolites in an organism can reveal mechanisms of disease occurrence.

• A Systems Biology Approach
The systematic bioinformatics approach organically integrates data from different genomes such as genome, proteome, and metabolome to study the mechanism of action at different levels, which helps to discover specific drug targets.
